The economy and your underwear
This is for those of you who think there’s no connection between your underwear and the economy.
“During a recession, underwear is among the first things that people stop buying—because hardly anybody actually sees them. This creates pent-up demand, and so when underwear sales level off and increase, it should signal an uptick in consumer demand.
According to the underwear indicator, an old favorite of Alan Greenspan, there needs to be a return to 2 to 3 percent annual growth in sales in order to claim a recovery.
However, consumer research group Mintel predicted underwear sales will see a continuing decline of 2.3 percent this year and no recovery until 2013.”
And this is Alan Greenspan telling you how big yours is.

Eeee... why so small wan.... hahahahaha
If you didn’t know, Greenspan was up to Jan 2006 the chairman of the US Federal Reserve. He is also #6 on CNN’s rogue gallery, the “Ten Most Wanted List, Culprits of the Collapse.”
Moral of the story? If you want to see the economy improve, buy more underwear.
I’m not sure but buying some used ones in Singapore could help too, lol.

lol economy and underwear?
it kinda make sense now =P
Hi Ken. Yeah I haven’t bought any for a while. Maybe that’s why the economy sucks.
mmm ur post somehow reminds me of those Jap selling girls’ used underwear in vending machines in their country. =_= but i think for those, maybe the business will get better during recession due to the level of stress? i donno. nv been to japan. LOL.
but hor, not just underwear la, clothes n stuff also. jz buy when u need lo. else, don waste. recession or not also same.
The japs are doing that? You read too much manga my friend.
Someone once told me that liqour consumption was a good indicator of economic direction. More stress, higher consumption. I have no idea if that’s true as I don’t drink.
Liquor = depends on countries.
No, it’s not manga. I don’t watch that kind of manga. LOL. I saw it from an article/news somewhere before. Maybe that was few years ago? and definitely not in my dream. LOL.
In our region, I suspect higher underwear sales mean more competitive times (= more cheap sales) than a better economy. In America, I think the figures are influenced more by lingerie sales – those fancy $100 bra and panty sets – than your normal everyday wear.
