Do cigarette warning labels work?
When you go to a car showroom to shop for a new ride, you’ll not be greeted with pictures like this plastered on the vehicle.
But when you buy a pack of smokes, you’re greeted with pics like this on the box.

But that’s different, you might say.
Stats wise, you’d be right. Car accidents kill 115 people a day in the US alone (probably 1,000 worldwide).
Cigarette smoking kills over 300 times that number according to the CDC.
While the figure varies, both can arrive at the same conclusion. You kick the bucket. Painfully.
I’m not a smoker. Wait let me correct that. I work around smokers all day so that makes me a passive smoker. I’ve gotten used to it. The thing is, while billboard pictures of accidents usually work to make drivers more alert, ciggie warning labels don’t seem to have any effect at all.
Any idea why?
Because the “fun” that a cigarette brings far outweighs those scary looking pictures for a smoker.
Also, the effort it needs to make them quit smoking is quite big.

I think it works. Malaysia cigarette sales drop 10% already. I am thinking about quiting smoke also… Just think

The reasons are according to my smoker friends, they have known many people including their grandfathers, relatives and acquaintances who smoke and still live healthily till the ripe old age of 80’s and 90’s. Therefore nothing or any pictures can ever convince or scare them. Even price hike is not going to deter to them. To them the power of love or liking for cigarettes overcome everything even the consequences of death or sickness. I have seen lots of young women smoke nowadays too. One can easily seen such young chicks smoke at either Coffee Bean or Starbucks cafe at anytime especially during weekends.
Those ppl must have lungs of steel to be able to absorb decades of nicotine & tar without choking to death.
Do cigarette warning labels work? Nah, Its not working at all! Go for medical checkup! Result of medical checkup do have the effect to warn myself smoke lesser.. lesser cigarette..

Nothing works, but the ‘pro-smoking’ and anti-smoking commercials make big bucks, not to mention a whole lot of others including hospitals and health insurance. Even Rolf Harris made it into an a humoros and entertaining musical…
