Result oriented – is that good?

Like most people, when it comes to work, I take the “hired killer” approach. Its means I don’t want to know how you’re going to do it, I just want to know that its done.

This morning a friend of mine quipped, “Not everything should be result oriented. If its like that, then why not just forget sex with your wife and just go for in-vitro fertilization?”

Hmmm he’s got a point there.

I do have a couple of horror stories to tell about process-oriented companies which I’ll blog about later. That’s companies that keep a close eye on how you do something rather than the results you produce. The argument is that results are a work process output so if you do it right, the result will come naturally. Or so they think.

    if thats the case, its like saying “I don’t care how you do it (legal or illegal), I just want you to get it done”. The correct context should not be ‘result oriented’, it should be ‘goal oriented’ since your goal might be producing the result without sacrificing integrity.

    Yup, so in your case goal = result plus conditions. Like winning a world championship without cheating.

    Muahaha… your friend’s point of view needs some widening works, I must say. It’s not all about sex or babies, mate. It’s more like a journey of life.
