Setting your dog on your maid

July 5, 2008

Not to be outdone by Malaysia’s road bullies, the Lion City boasts its share of hot-iron and knife-weilding domestic bullies.

Right after housewife Tay Siew Hoon got her dog to bite her Indonesian maid’s thigh and finger, she sat down to watch TV in the living room of her Changi home.

Bizzare? There’s more. Recounting how her husband and son tended to the maid’s wounds, they thought she could get credit for their actions to reduce her sentence. Zomg.

She is going to jail for 20 months for it. The husband says its unfair. No mention made on which part of the maid’s 11 injuries was unfair (does he think she deserved more?)

Straits Times report here.

For weird reasons some people who hire maids seem to think they own them as slaves. They work the maid from early morning until 1 or 2 am, and depending on how late the kids want to stay up, the poor maid has to cook supper for them. One such maid couldn’t manage to get up again at 5.30am to get the kids ready for school or wash the clothes (by hand instead of using the machine) was splashed with cold water and dragged to the bathroom bawling like a baby. Some get pinched or whacked where it is not noticeable.

Fortunately after repeat offenses, the guilty part (a neighbor) got black-marked by the agencies.

I actually think that people ought to sit for a psychiatric test before they are allowed to hire maids. There’s something about the competitiveness, stress and compactness of urban society thats turning people into neurotic beasts. Its coming out as road rage, domestic rage and work rage.

I agree about the psychiatric test. I recommended it for people who buy weapons (after that Korean guy who ran rampage in a US college), drive buses, and also those who run governments…

This type of people ought to be put into an asylum and treated exactly the same way they treated their maids. Karma’s a bitch!

@LC, LOL at the last part, haha 🙂

@Dee, with 20 months in jail she’ll have a lot of time to think about what she did. That’s karmic payback in a sense.
