Guess what business is this

July 11, 2008
  • Its easy. Work from home. Attend networking parties. Earn while having fun.
  • It creeps into your conversation while you’re having dinner with friends.
  • The excitement is not proportional to the income.
  • The buzz of the product far exceeds its actual value.
  • The tendency to get emo over scheme leaders. (Oh gawd I got a call from HIM!)
  • Participants like to declare their income.
  • Participants are quick to brush off of any suggestion that this might taper off.
  • Different schemes like to bash each other.

Sounds like MLM? No, its blogging for money.

A friend of mine made that comparison over dinner last night. Hmm… I never quite thought of it that way before.

I have heard some success stories from friends about people making good money, as much as 5 figures in USD monthly. Just like in any other lines, few make it, but most doing average and the remaining fails.

Sometimes you may have to stick your neck out pretty far, that is, if you blog about politics. If you blog about tame subjects, unless it’s about real value products that 5 figure may be just a dream. If you’re real journalist, it may not be worth it to hock your principles for advertising dollars.

Don’t really know but thess are just my thoughts from what I observe.

@Mun, those 5 figure earners, are they doing personal blogging or product promotions? I know portals and eBay sites can achieve that easily.

@LC, I suppose writing is like any other talent. One uses it to make a living. Whats interesting is how many of us will knowingly use our talents to produce something which we might object to. For example, making electronic components that end up in weapon systems.

@cbenc12, true. One difference. MLM people actually do earn enough to buy a house and an expensive car whereas I’ve yet to hear any local blogger doing that. 🙂
