Not.awesome.

Okay, despite having to juggle like 20 things a day a couple of weeks ago I couldn’t resist dashing into Century off Shoreline on Saturday for tickets to The Dark Knight. With Scott and his girfriend Laura gasping to keep up with me. 🙂

If there’s one thing I take away from the movie, its Batman’s bike. Imagine flying through the city streets sitting between two huge truck tires. Awesome x 10! Please tell me the 12-inch action figure is hitting the stores coz I want!

Anyway. Everyone gets a different message when they watch a movie like this. Mine was: can people handle the dark truths of their lives? Not the citizens of Gotham it seems. Not when their big hope against crime, the D.A. Harvey Dent himself turned bad. Even Batman struggled as he agonized over the Joker’s taunts that he was a wussy, and on whether its time to throw in the towel and pass the batcape to someone else.

But people need their sacred icon to live even if it has turned evil. In the end Batman makes a choice of sacrifice just so an institution can remain unblemished and people could remain feeling righteous. With Commissioner Gordon’s nod he allows himself to be hunted by the very people he’s trying to keep safe, for crimes he didn’t commit. As Gordon said to his son, Batman is the hero Gotham derserves but not the hero it needs right now. The bat spotlight is smashed and the white knight turns dark.

Great show, all 2.5 hours of it. Two thumbs up.
