Circumcision and HIV transmission
October 10, 2008
Did you buy the story that circumcision helps reduce HIV risk? Think again. A new study now throws doubt over this much-hyped claim.
Americans traditionally circumcise their male babies because we’re told its very, very important to look like daddy. But the numbers are tumbling. The latest circumcision tally:
Midwest…75%
Northeast…65%
South…56%
West…31%
What a difference a few years has made.

why do something irreversible without actually having the kid’s consent? to me it’s terribly stupid.
I dunno about Asia but in the US, circumcision seems to come as a standard post natal package for male babies. I’m sure it meant a couple of hundred extra bucks for the doctor. The practice became so routine that parents didn’t even question it. And most stammer in bewilderment when asked why they forced it on their baby. So up came the lame excuses like, “If you don’t look like daddy, you’ll be emotionally scarred for life.” LOL!!
To prevent HIV, use condoms!!!
True. And some education helps too. 🙂
