Power up to Web Browser in 30 seconds

October 27, 2008

My Linux notebook takes about 1 minute to power up and give me Firefox web browser. Feels like an eternity sometimes.

How long does your pc take to boot?

Here’s some good news for those of us who want instant gratification.

Hewlett-Packard, Dell and Lenovo are rolling out machines that give people access to basic functions like e-mail and a Web browser in 30 seconds or less.

30 seconds? That’s too long. How about off-to-ready in under 5 seconds.

    5 seconds? Can…don’t shut down your laptop/PC 😀

You mean hibernating? My data got corrupted the last time I tried it so I’ve never tried it again.

:O I’ve never experienced something like that before. Just make sure you don’t hibernate AND shutdown at the same time. It’ll kill your OS for sure.

I guess you’re right. Personaly I’m waiting for diskless PCs to arrive. No more HDD. Everything’s on RAM. Bootup is nearly instantaneous. That would be a dream come true. 🙂

The closest alternative available option now is to buy a lappie with SSD…. but they are bloody expensive and limited memory space

Yeah. At the rate the technology is going, I have no doubt we’ll see big price drops as early as next year.
