That’s not a Korean. This one is!

February 16, 2009

When I was working in Singapore, I had a female colleague who was just head over heels with anything Korean. It was the season of K-movies and you could say she was their no. 1 fan.

She was so swept up in it, it was all I could hear whenever we went out to lunch. If only she could hitch up with a Korean guy, she would sigh, it would be a dream come true.

By chance some time later, I learnt that a friend of mine actually had a Korean colleague. A light bulb went off in my head. After a quick phone call, we suggested a get-together with the K-guy and Jane my colleague. We were to meet on a Saturday at Vivo City.

So the four of us met and my friend Jane was introduced to Han, an expat Korean who kinda looked something like this guy.

Okay, pretend you didn’t see anything below his neck.

The conversation was polite. Didn’t see any sparks fly though. The slice of cheesecake took up most of my attention anyway so I just left it to them to sort things out.

After the chit chat had ended and they left, Jane gave me a kick in the shin that hurt for a couple of days.

“THAT’S NOT A KOREAN GUY!!” she said in a muffled scream.

“But of course he is,” I said innocently. “He gave you his name card didn’t he?” I said.

“Yeah right. You know what I mean!” she stormed.

I didn’t get it. So according to her this is a Korean guy.

A Korean

A Korean

But this one is not.

Not a Korean

Even though both are from Seoul, S. Korea.

Talk about a chicken and duck moment.

Moral of the story: Try and be a little more precise when describing something to a programmer, especially if you are a girl. 😀

Perception and reality can be worlds apart. One can only tell the difference by one’s maturity.

…and sometimes the ability to read the female mind, hehe. 😀

Hey they, what a jokes. haha! i think the girl has describe very clearly. U didn’t see any dramas episode k-movies? At one time, just like your friend, i was also obsessed with this season korean drama expecially winter sonata, autumn in my heart & dae jang geum(jewel in the palace). The beautiful scenery, lovely soundtrack, cute, pretty, gorgeous actors/actresses, nice/unique love storyline will really swept any person away & hooked to the serials.
But as time goes by, korean dramas is sometime too long & unlogic love stories. i only see what worth watching & the selective one.
now i think the singapore dramas episode in the tv has improved a lot b’cos they truly shows the morality, reality society life & most important the stories end fast. The singapore actress/actors can really transform themself from old to young or vice versa and can act in any diversify characters like action, soft, hard, ugly to beautiful or the opposite, tired housewife & etc. u didn’t watch any of these singapore dramas? Sometime they join with the hong kong actor/actress to better the dramas which is very nice to watch. But they are some which is not very nice, so I just stop seeing it half way. Come to think about it, i shoudn’t watch this drama movie so much b’cos it can make people hooked to it & sometimes it’s a wasting time as the stories keep dragging & adding new stuff.

I travel a lot so rather than miss drama episodes, I rather not watch. Anway, my HK and Sg friends tell me what you see in these dramas and what you see in the real life of HK and Sg people are completely different. Same for Hollywood.
