A bit of brand envy, Steve?

Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer scorns Apple as a $500 logo, reports Slashdot.

Hmmm. Now why would a company that enjoys the lion’s share of the personal computing market be so eager to bash up Apple whose market share is what, 5%?

Was he irritated that people actually camped overnight in a queue that stretched two blocks long just to own an iPhone on launch day? Or that Apple makes products that people are actually excited about?

Heck, these two don’t even compete on the same category. Microsoft doesn’t make PCs or phones (then), and Apple doesn’t make game consoles. Microsoft makes operating systems, one of the most patchy and pirated pieces of software on the planet. What’s the going price for a Vista knock-off these days, $10 in the back alleys of Hong Kong and Shenzen? Dare I say imitation is the highest form of flattery.

So what’s Steve so uptight about that he’s picking on someone not even half his own size?

Dude, chill out and go buy a book on branding. The subject’s not that hard to understand.

    Maybe he’s one of those guys lining up for the IPhone but couldn’t get his hand on it due to out of stock. 😛

    Oh, China has pirated IPhone too 😀

    Haha, yeah I’ve seen the China knock-offs. I’m told they can pirate automobiles too. 🙂
