My inverter aircon works!

April 3, 2009

Last month I agonized over what aircon to buy after the one in my bedroom went kaput. So I decided to go for an inverter model. Here are the official results.

Previous month’s electricity bill with non-inverter aircon: Rm 131.08
Last month’s electricity bill with inverter aircon: Rm 66.21

Both aircons were 1 hp.

The duration of use is the same: 10pm – 6am every night.

Days used a month: About 26 (I spend weekends in Singapore every other week).

The temperature setting is the same: 22 degrees C.

The difference: The inverter aircon cut my bill by 50% compared to the previous non-inverter.

The big deal? I live greener. Because I draw less energy from the grid, my energy producer burns a little less fuel, thereby reducing its carbon emissions on account of my lower consumption. That’s how its supposed to work in theory anyway.

I hope one day I can reach a point where I don’t need airconditioning to sleep. I still struggle with the hot nights here.

The new aircon I use is the Daikin FTKD25DVM inverter. Haha, no I’m not promoting it (its not even pretty to look at) but if you need to buy an aircon, think green and go for an inverter – any brand. I’m sure you’ll get to enjoy similar benefits.

Pretty happy I found a way to live environmentally friendlier, cooler and save some money in the process. :D

Definitely will keep this in mind…

I once thought of an invention – a bed in a transparent watertight coccoon that’s submerged in water as a way to cool your sleeping habitat. I even imagined having fishes in the water to keep you entertained as you fall asleep. But then, I was 15…

I thought the man in the shop told me that I need rewiring if I want to instal inverter air-cond and it costs more than the ordinary ones. The brand I asked for is Panasonic. Any idea?

Strange, in my case they re-used the wiring left behind by the old aircon but the piping, they did have to install new ones. The new piping is a bit more expensive I’m told. I think its the same for any brand.

It has better be fail-safe, otherwise it’ll be a watery grave. Oops! Sorry… this brain of mine always goes in that direction… spoilsport, I am.

Haha, everyone told me the same thing. :)

Yeap, the inverter aircon works for my friend too. Unfortunately my current condo doesn’t have the extra pipe for the inverter =_= they assume everyone wants the standard aircon, and din provide for us. =_=

Would they do anything if you drilled an extra hole?

Ya, it’s very, very hot lately. I can feel the heat too. People said that it is hot during this march, april n june month. For me, i think it’s global warming.

I just read that we’ve recently lost a whole arctic ice shelf due to climate change. It took hundreds of thousands of years to form it. Pretty sad.

Glad to announce that I have been sleeping without aircon or fan since birth. And as todate I stll sleep without fan or aircon, yet I sleep so soundly to the surprise of all my circle of friends. (I just need to open the windows)

    You have my admiration. :)

cool! i’ll consider an inverter aircon when im ready to get one! =D

anyway, hi there! nice comment you left on my blog.. the FB one on marketing.. haha! XD

Anytime man. That’s a cool blog you got.

you should have put this along, this is a non advertising blog !!

Hehe, yeah this blog is ad-free. And as for inverter aircons, I think the Daikin is the ugliest. I bought it because it was cheap.

Yes i’ve heard that a whole arctic ice shelf has lost again due to climate change. The thing is people do not feel the urgency if ice keep melting.
see this ice melting thru this site: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/04/090414120457.htm
They are report recently that Antarctic ice is growing, not melting away. See: http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,25348657-401,00.html

It is stated west Antarctica is losing more ice than the east is gaining. Though ice sheif is thickening in the east but global warming(GW) n climate change is still happening. With rising CO2 and other gases trap heat will only increase the temperature Earth warming n thus more ice is melting n would result in major sea level rises. The function of the sea ice is to acts as the world’s air conditioner n to reflect the sun n send it back into the space, but the ice is melting
so fast now, that there’s not enough reflection and because the sea is already warm, it melts the ice. And because the ice melt, the sea warmer. Because if the ice/poles all melt, sea getting warmer, then the gas might be released from the ocean(It’s a lot of gas) and enough to poisoned everyone.

    Pls read this report(http://e360.yale.edu/content/feature.msp?id=2081):
One thing is certain: the shallow Siberian Shelf alone covers more than 1.5 million square kilometers (580,000 square miles), an area larger than France, Germany, and Spain combined. Should its permafrost layer thaw, an amount of methane equal to 12 times the current level in the atmosphere could be released, according to Shakhova. Such a release would cause “catastrophic global warming,” she recently wrote in Geophysical Research Abstracts. Among the many unanswered questions is how quickly — over years? centuries? — methane releases might occur.
While most greenhouse gas studies focus on carbon dioxide, methane is 20 times more potent as a heat-trapping gas in the atmosphere.

    More info on methane gas:

    .http://www.carboncommentary.com/2008/11/08/163#more-163
    .http://www.ku.dk/english/news/?content=http://www.ku.dk/english/news/methane.htm.http://www.independent.co.uk/environment/climate-change/exclusive-the-methane-time-bomb-938932.html

    Pls listen to these quote:
Supreme Master Ching Hai: 1) So now, the permafrost layer is melting each day. And the methane gas, or other gas even, are releasing into the atmosphere. I really hope and pray that someone is listening. Methane and nitrous oxide is made by stock raising, stock keeping, animals keeping. They are far more poisonous, far more dangerous than CO2. Because the atmosphere is getting warmer and so the methane is bubbling out. If we stop the worst cause of global warming, meaning stock raising, animal breeding, then we will be able to save the planet.

    2) If we reduce the livestock raising, then we can reduce all the toxic gases lingering in our air right now. Hydrogen sulfide, Yes. that is one of the toxic gases, deadly gases which is emitted from livestock, yes. Another is methane. Another is, of course, CO2. And the methane can even trigger more CO2 if it warm the climate. So, encourage organic farming. Be vegan.

    3) If it is not cold then even all the permafrost, which the cold hard mud layers, will be melted also, and then the gas from the permafrost also will be released. And that’s the reason maybe you feel more tired. And some places may have more mental illness, and all kinds of other illnesses, and diseases go where they have not been before even. Like mosquitoes, they migrate into different areas where they have not been before because the climate is warmer.

Everybody has to join into the vegetarian diet, and stop the killing, stop the harm to other people and the animals and save energies every way possible and go green wherever possible. Then we still can save the planet.

Some of this methane gas is actually has been released into the air. Guess nearby area to the ice. So some people might feel headache, uncomfortable or others which they thought is their physical problem. But it is actually not the health problem but b’coz of methane gas.
People still do not undertand what is climate change n doesn’t feel the urgency to save the earth. Actually, Climate change will lead to some parts will get colder, some will get warmer.
Climate change means changing climate around the world eg many countries & cities will be under water, more typhoon, a lot of frequent disster, cold places become hot, hot places become cold & it become all kind of chaotic later on. And it will be very suffering for the people. A lot of people will suffer & they do not understand why.

What am saying here is not to make people feel scare or whatever b’coz it is the fact that climate change is happenening. But i want to say is we still have hope in saving the earth by being veg. This is a method by healing negative(meat) with positive(vegetarian).

Yeah I saw a program on Discovery channel once about how rising sea temperatures are triggering the release of methane gas trapped deep in the seabed. I wonder if anyone is even thinking of having children with all these things happening to the planet.
